Family First was set up by a group of Christians in Ipswich in 2013, originally known as Ipswich4family a franchisee of Yeovil4family. In 2016 we became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and in May 2017 we became an independent charity with a new name and renewed focus on the local areas needs.
The Charity is led by Trustees and a Management Team who possess a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience working in the public, private and voluntary sector. All have a passion to see vulnerable children and families supported to reach their full potential. All our paid staff and management team are Christians.
At a day to day operational level Family First is led by Sarah Stapleton, Service Lead, who is supported by Michelle Jones Deputy Service Lead and Family Coordinator. We have two other Family Coordinators, Aud Catto and Karen McNeil, along with an administrator Helen Taylor. All staff work part time.
Our Family Coordinators are trained to work with the family and link with agencies or organisations involved with them. Family Coordinators help families identify what they want to change and work with them towards mutually agreed common goals. They also carry out 3 monthly reviews. They support the Family Volunteer who is visiting the family each week by providing one to one or group supervision.
Our Family Volunteers are appropriately trained and matched to a family. Volunteers support the family by listening to them in a non-judgemental way, helping them to gain the support they need to make changes, find solutions to their challenges and bring new hope into their lives. A Family Volunteer, once appointed, will commit to spending 1 hour per week with a family for a minimum of 6 months and will commit to remain with the programme for a minimum of 12 months. The visit will usually take place in the family’s home. The Family Volunteer is supported by a Family Coordinator who carries out a risk assessment prior the volunteer working alone.
We are committed to working with, serving and relating to all people in our community and are keen to ensure that our services are accessible to any families regardless of race, religion or belief, age, sexual orientation or marital status.
